Passport Application and Renewal

Overview

Malaysian passports are issued by the Immigration Department of Malaysia. Both first-time applications and renewals can be done at Immigration offices or online for eligible applicants.

Passport Types

Ordinary Passport (Blue):

• For general travel
• Validity: 2 or 5 years
• Available to all Malaysian citizens

Official Passport (Green):

• For government officials on duty
• Issued by government

Diplomatic Passport (Red):

• For diplomats and high-ranking officials
• Issued by government

Documents Required

First-Time Application:

• MyKad (original and copy)
• Birth certificate (original and copy)
• Marriage certificate (if applicable)
• Old passport (if any)

Renewal:

• MyKad (original and copy)
• Old passport (original and copy)
• Completed application form

How to Apply

At Immigration Office:

1. Arrive early (offices open 8 AM)
2. Take queue number
3. Submit documents at counter
4. Photo and biometric capture
5. Pay fee
6. Collect passport (or wait for delivery)

Online Renewal (for eligible applicants):

1. Visit passport.imi.gov.my
2. Create account or login
3. Fill application form
4. Upload required documents
5. Pay online
6. Collect at office or home delivery

Fee Structure

Processing Time

• Normal: 1-2 weeks
• Express: Same day (apply before 11 AM)
• Online renewal: 1-2 weeks
