MyKad: Renewal, Replacement, and Uses

What is MyKad?
MyKad is the Malaysian identity card. All citizens and permanent residents must have one.
When to renew:
- 📅 At age 12 (first MyKad)
- 📅 At age 18 (adult MyKad)
- 📅 Every 5 years after age 60
- 📅 When card is damaged or lost
Where to renew:
- JPN office
- MyKad kiosks (selected locations)
- Mobile JPN units
What to bring:

- ✅ Birth certificate (for first MyKad)

How long does MyKad replacement take?
Same day for most cases at JPN offices. MyKad kiosks provide immediate replacement. Special cases may take 1-2 weeks.

No, you must apply in-person at JPN office or MyKad kiosk for identity verification and biometric capture.
What if I lose my MyKad while overseas?
Report to nearest Malaysian embassy/consulate. Get emergency travel document. Report to police upon return to Malaysia, then apply for replacement at JPN.
Can someone else apply for MyKad replacement on my behalf?
No, you must apply in-person for biometric verification (photo and fingerprints). Exceptions for medical cases with doctor's certificate.
